RoHS and REACH
Compliance

RoHS and REACH are European driven legislation that were developed to help maintain worker
safety and environmental safety based on the removal of hazardous substances and chemicals, and helping individuals
and companies identify and manage the chemicals used in the manufacturing of their products. JNJ Industries has
always been an environmentally conscious company, using chemicals that are low in toxicity and environmentally
safe. Our GlobalTech chemical line has always been CFC and HCFC free and do not contain ozone depletors. Our
products do not contain any of the substances identified by RoHS and are all REACH compliant.
RoHS Compliance Definition
The definition and aim of the RoHS directive is quite simple. The RoHS directive aims to restrict certain
dangerous substances commonly used in electronic and electronic equipment. Any RoHS compliant component is tested for
the presence of Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd), Mercury (Hg), Hexavalent chromium (Hex-Cr), Polybrominated biphenyls
(PBB), and Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE). For Cadmium and Hexavalent chromium, there must be less than
0.01% of the substance by weight at raw homogeneous materials level. For Lead, PBB, and PBDE, there must be no more
than 0.1% of the material, when calculated by weight at raw homogeneous materials. Any RoHS compliant component
must have 100 ppm or less of mercury and the mercury must not have been intentionally added to the component. In
the EU, some military and medical equipment are exempt from RoHS compliance.
What is RoHS? RoHS is the acronym for Restriction of Hazardous Substances. RoHS, also known as
Directive 2002/95/EC, originated in the European Union and restricts the use of specific hazardous materials found
in electrical and electronic products. All applicable products in the EU market after July 1, 2006 must pass
RoHS compliance.

list.
Why is RoHS compliance important? The restricted materials are hazardous to the environment and pollute
landfills, and are dangerous in terms of occupational exposure during manufacturing and recycling. Being RoHS
compliant means you are doing the right thing for your workers and for the planet.
REACH Legislation
REACH is the Regulation on Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals. It entered into
force on 1st June 2007. It streamlines and improves the former legislative framework on chemicals of the European
Union. Classification Legislation
Classification Legislation
CLP is the Regulation on classification, labeling and packaging of substances and mixtures. It entered into
force on 20 January 2009. It aligns existing EU legislation to the United Nations Globally Harmonised System
(GHS).
